Re: Whole vs Split logs

It depends on the style stove. A lot of conventional stoves seem to run more efficient with at least some larger unsplit mixed with some split. With the gasification stoves I like to split at least in half unless it is a fairly small round. It is almost impossible to get wood too dry for a gasificat...

Re: Pump failure

How well the 15-42 pumps do would depend on what you have in your system. If you don't have a lot of pipe and fittings then the 15-42 might move more water. If there is a lot then it wouldn't work very well. I would just check the pumps once in a while. They usually start getting noisy before they f...

Re: Pump failure

Is the impeller actually bronze or is it just the cartridge for a bronze pump that you were looking at?
7 years isn't bad but if it was mine, I would look into changing to a Grundfos. Overall I have had much better luck with them than Taco.

Re: 62' of Rehau Insulpex 1" ID (32mm) $550

I have a 62' piece of 1" ID insulpex. This is the exact same size and foam type as Logstor. Looking to get $550 for the 62' piece. It is just the last section of a roll.

Re: Titanium shell & tube heat exchanger

It was a good deal. Did someone from here buy it or somewhere else you had it listed?

Re: Which is better

I hadn't seen this earlier. I see it shows you have a HeatMaster C250. Did you get that since the original post? That is a good choice.

Re: New setup help with install

You will also want to put a pressure gauge on the closed system.

Re: New setup help with install

Yes, that is how I would do it. The reason I would use a 30 plate for this instead of a 20 plate is because of the length and size of pipe you are using. If you used a 20 plate it would be the bottleneck in the loop. The expansion tank is usually before the pump(s). You will want an air separator to...

Re: New setup help with install

The simplest way is to just put the DHW plate in series but you can not use a 10 plate if you do that. Like I mentioned above, either a 30 plate (~5x12") or don't put it in series. The 70 plate will make keeping air out of the radiators much easier so probably worth keeping. You do need to add an ex...

Re: New setup help with install

Unless the house is a ways higher than the OWB, I would consider skipping the 70 plate and just run the same water in everything. I know others on the other site would not agree with that though. If you do pressurize the house system, you will have to add an expansion tank. In the text it says 10 pl...
