Re: Cheap temp monitoring systems?

I graph is generated by the internal logging software. I don't think there is a way to use it with a different system.

Re: Shutdown during winter (on purpose)

If you are going to use it for sure right away next winter, I would fill it with water and treatment now.

Re: Replacing performaflex

The rehau is 4.3" OD and your pipe is 5" ID so it should fit if there are no tight bends. The rehau will not bend anywhere near as tight as the Performaflex.

I would call Z Supply about it. If it did actually fail, they may replace it for free.

Re: Shutdown during winter (on purpose)

Alcohol boils around 170 degrees so if you heat it up to 180, it will boil away.
In a closed system, it would boil at a higher temperature but if it does boil then it would be released through the air remover.

Re: Shutdown during winter (on purpose)

Draining and blowing out the lines and filling with RV antifreeze sounds like the best option. I don't think the RV antifreeze would hurt anything. It is usually not recommended because some of it uses alcohol to lower the freeze point which would evaporate the first time the stove got up to tempera...

Re: Ash in Boiler

I have not had a P&M either but all the different stoves I have used worked better with some ash built up.
Stirring the ash to bring moisture to the surface it a good idea.

Hopefully someone that has run a P&M stove will reply.

Re: Aquastat setting

If you want to burn some gas too then I would turn the aquastat up to at least 140 and see what it does. You may be able to go even higher depending on what temps the OWB runs at and how much gas you want to burn. Also, depending on what type of pipe you have the aquastat strapped on, it may be off ...

Re: Part time home

It is around $700-$1000 per 55 gallon barrel.
Depending on where you are and what brand you get, you would probably 1/2 or 1/3 glycol to water ratio.
So, most likely close to 4 barrels for a 6048.

Re: Part time home

Boiler antifreeze isn't toxic but is very expensive for that much.

If you drain it, you would have to make sure there in no water in the lines or they would freeze and possible break.
How much of the winter would it be used and how many times would it be shut down?
