Deerflies

Who else has these evil little creatures? I am not sure if the swarming around your head and bouncing off it or the biting is worse.

Nasty looking little bugger! we have deer flies here as well, they are a bit different than what you have but the bad ones around here are moose flies, I think they could lug off a cat and chew their head off in flight

Yup, hate deer flies, the horse flies are worse. Of course horse flies are so damn big at least you can feel them when they land.

I am guessing what they call horseflies around here is something different. There aren't many of them and they usually leave people alone.

Black flies are worse than deerflies here but they only last for a week or two each year and there aren't as many of them. They don't swarm as much and bite right away.

Next to gnats, barn flies around here are the worse. We have two huge dairy operations, one on each side of us, within a quarter mile. From mid July 'til after the first couple of hard freeze. They're around in the millions here, way out number the common house fly by 100 to 1. Sound like high powered fighter jets & bite. Still love it here in this wide open beautiful country.

This year is bad for them since we have had decent rain. Mosquitos too here.
