Post by crankshaftdan II » Tue Mar 24, 2015 10:14 am

Looking to purchase a piece of 409 grade s/s in 7 ga (.1875) or thicker --size should be 12"'x22" or larger for firetube door clean-out and piece of insulation for same. Any thoughts of where to look? Thanks........Cranky...NEWBIE

Have you tried checking with local places that sell steel?

If they don't carry it, you could try calling some companies that make stoves and see if they would sell a piece. Did you try calling Heatmor?

None of the local steel people handle 409--only 304 or other light guage s/s--nothing in he bone yards around here either--last resort maybe heatmor has a piece laying around for capture? Will advise when found.......Cranky

I called Heatmor last week about the s/s flue pipe cover--seems that they still have repair parts in stock in Mild steel and also the mesh insulation inside cover for same(Pricy in my opinion $210.00 + shipping costs!) Found a local used steel supplier for 3/16" s/s flat stock-will advise further upon inspection of same to verify that it is without holes and "Flat"--sure glad I'm not in a rush for said items!!! Just a update--will advise more later.........Cranky :|

Not the quality of what I want to use for the boiler-warm weather is approaching-more s/s scrap will be coming into the scrap dealers-more time to search!!!

Still on the search for 409 s/s--also have found 1/2" thick K-17 tempered glass--has anyone used this for a visual on a mfg. or home built unit for watching the flue smoke/turbulance etc/ ????
